Frequently Asked Questions

What to bring?     Bring a snack and a water bottle labeled with your name.
What to wear?     Wear clothing you don't mind getting dirty.  Jeans or leggings are a good choice, as are boots or sneakers.
How many people attend sessions?    Weekly sessions  are designed for a small group of six students and three mentors.
Does it matter if my student has no riding experience?     All who are interested are welcome to apply.
Is it okay if my student is a beginner artist?     Absolutely okay.
What would a typical session look like?     We will typically start our sessions with ministry time listening to one of our mentors, or visiting guest speakers, share about their faith journey.  We get to hear the exciting twists and turns in their story that have shaped the person they are today.  The speaker may share about a parable or scripture verse that is meaningful to them.  Afterwards we open it up for discussion, and as people feel led they can share how they could relate to something the speaker shared etc.  After ministry time we either work with the horses doing ground training or riding lessons, or we're doing an art lesson.  At the end of sessions we talk about the upcoming week and take prayer requests.  Sometimes we offer our students a spiritual lesson to work on for that week.  Then we close in prayer and head home, hopefully happy and tired.

Are there forms to fill out?     Good Reins has a Liability Waiver, and an Emergency Medical Info. form.  Both are required prior to student and volunteer participation.
How is Covid safety handled?    All of our activities are held either outdoors, or in the well ventilated open barn, where there is plenty of space for physical distancing.   We plan to follow the recommendations made at the time we are in session.  Recommendations are changing regularly, so we'll stay up to date with the latest.
Are there any fees or additional costs?     Our goal is to make this opportunity available to any student who wants to participate.  We have nominal application and student supply fees.  We believe the Lord will provide what we need, and so much more.
